II. Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences.
Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology.
A. Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
A blog is a personal internet journal. If Blogs are uses correctly, they can have a number of educational for students with diverse learning styles and learning disabilities. When used effectively blogs can allow a student who struggles with attention or auditory processing to review class material multiple times. A common difficulty special needs students is misplacing or forgetting schoolwork. A classroom blog can provide a location for students to locate important class information and can help with organization.
This slidecast that I created will introduce students to blogs as a teaching and learning tool in social studies classroom.
B. Apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
Online Learning Legislation - I believe it is a good idea to legislate online learning in our state. Students who do not receive this form of training will be left behind and unable to compete in the global economy. It should be offered as a requirement in all charter, private and public schools. If you look at the data it will be money well spent. Online learning provides more choices for students and can help to provide equal opportunities for all learners. Online courses save money and better prepare students for higher education. Click here to view a wiki a created that holds a discussion on this hot topic.
C. Identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
Just adding technology to a lesson does not make teaching more productive. This software assignment demonstrates my ability to locate and evaluate drill and practice, tutorial, instructional game, problem solving and simulation software packages.
D. Plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
During my time as a computer teacher, I have not always had an adequate amount of computers available for all of my students. This normally would result in a classroom disruption of some kind. I eliminated this problem by giving whole-class presentations. This gave students an opportunity learn about technology and participate in projects.
I managed these technology resources with the using an LCD panel, or video projection system. I used multimedia to keep my students engaged. One of the sites I use for these type of presentations is http://www.thirteen.org/. It allows my students to explore the world of science and nature, having fun while learning.
E. Plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.
In some cases playing more video games reduces the time kids spend playing outside or participating in sports. They may be more prone to eating quick unhealthy snacks while indoors playing these games also. With all of this being said (since video games are so popular) here is a viable solution. I have created a webquest to teach students the importance of an active life style.
Students will use the computer/internet to help them gather information about the health benefits of daily exercise, and present their findings. Their independence and confidence will increase during and after the lesson is completed. The technology used allows students to obtain information in a way that accelerates both understanding and the progression of higher-order thinking skills.
