IV. Assessment and Evaluation.
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies
A. Apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
Teaching technology allows me to be creative when it comes to assessing my student’s progress. In Keyboarding, I use the following Keyboarding sites to monitor and track their progress. Students struggle with typing can than average can still succeed with these lessons.
I created a web site on Spelling City where I post relevant assessments for my students to take online. I create this lesson on Ratios & Proportional Relationships for my 6th grade students. When you click on the selected math words you will receive a quick lesson. This electronic resource makes learning word lists fun and easy. For new students, I give the Computers and Computer Literacy Presentation and Assignment. I encourage them to share their knowledge and experience with computers as I discuss this lesson.
B. Use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
As a teacher I administer many assessments to track my students’ progress. Many of them are done with technology. One of the tests that I give is the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) exam. MAP assessments are adaptive achievement tests in Mathematics, Reading, and Language Usage that are taken on a computer. This program adjusts the difficulty of the questions so that each student takes a unique test.
The MAP test uses the RIT scale, short for Rasch Unit. The RIT scale is an equal-interval scale much like centimeters on a meter stick. It is used to chart a student's academic growth from year to year.
STAR Math and STAR Reading are computer-adaptive assessments that give me accurate reliable data. This allows me to make good decisions about instruction and intervention. I am responsible for administering and providing in school technical support for this program.
C. Apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.
One of the most popular methods to determine if students' are using technology for advanced learning is a survey. This survey is an excerpt from a Technology Integration Plan created as group effort in my IT 8140 Seminar in Advanced Technology Integration class. The survey allows teachers and students to evaluate the levels of technology use in their schools before the creation of a Technology Integration Plan. I also attened the Education Week Webinar "Public learning Communities" (PLCs) and Common Core: Putting Data to Work for You.
