V. Productivity and Professional Practices
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice.
A. Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
I am currently engaged in a professional development venture being part of this Instructional Technology Program at Wayne State University. The Educational Technology Endorsement that I am completing has required me to:
- develop lessons that promote State of Michigan and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards,
- plan classroom activities that use technology to promote critical thinking, problem solving and creativity
- design activities that give P-12 students opportunities to plan their own use of technological resources to fulfill class objectives,
- understand, enforce and model ethical and legal standards of using technology,
- create evaluation plans to document the impact of selected technological resources on student achievement,
- review, evaluate and recommend adoption of available technologies based on clear and appropriate criteria,
- include opportunities for P-12 students to discuss current societal issues surrounding technology applications and
- forecast alternatives and further innovations and consequences with technological advancement.
B. Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
Making sound decisions concerning the use of technology for student learning is important to student success. Constructive change in professional practice usually starts with reflection. The following links provide surveys taken from the previously posted (TIP) Technology Integration Plan.
(Post- Program Reflection) Survey of teachers evaluating levels of technology integration in lessons and attitudes regarding the use of technology.
(Post -Reflection) Survey of students evaluating levels of technology integration in lessons and attitudes regarding the use of technology.
C. Apply technology to increase productivity.
Many factors can contribute to successful classroom management. One tech tool that I utilize in my classroom is an electronic grade book. This grade book created using a Microsoft Excel template helped me keep track of my student’s grades quickly and efficiently. This allowed me more time to concentrate on the task of teaching and not record keeping. It came in very handy before the district I work for implemented a school wide system for all teachers.
I often visit the site Web 2.0 for the Classroom Teacher to explore different ways to utilize technology in my classroom to increase productivity and become a better educator.
D. Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
During my teaching career I have taught many subjects. One being High School Economics. I created the wiki Economics - A Simple Approach to give students a place to learn about the subject of Economics. The site is available to everyone including parents and students. My blog IT 6230: Internet in the K-12 Classroom
is a place to share thoughts and resources related to technology in education.
